The fish wanting to taste flesh on a hook
swallows the bait and is eaten in turn,
All things flow from life. Reap honorably.
All things flow from life. Sow responsibly.
All my obsession, attachment, craving,
makes means for my mind to scatter my life.
Spurring fear of loss and lust to possess,
my dependence, desire, entwinement,
give other names to greed and theft and lying,
all functions of the mind fixed on dying.
Rather seek death of the power of mind
to drive us into an indebtedness
of spirit and soul to bodily hungers.
Don’t blame your hungers. Relinquish their grip.
Don’t shame your hungers. Release your guilt trips.
Attend your lust for letting lusts drive you:
allow them their way of revealing you,
and relinquish your need for their commands.
The dignity of your very being
is the dignity of every soul.
We practice love not to gather merit.
We practice love to meet life force whole.
Wounds of an arrow or axe heal swiftly.
Wounds of violent speech heal ever slowly.
Clearing all our hungry indebtedness
requires of us, first, a making good.
For parents: honor, respect, attention, care.
For our friends: honor respect, attention, care.
For our culture: leaving it better than found.
For love: growing, teaching, radiating,
fulfilling spiritual obligation
realizing creative inspiration.
Life flows from all things. Reap responsibly.
Life flows from all things. Sow honorably,
The man wanting to taste flesh from a hook
serves himself as bait, is bitten in turn.
